There a long list of the things I miss during this complicated time of Covid-19 and high on that list is spending time with friends. I cannot spend much time or get close to my friend Katherine because she has high risk of catching a severe case of the disease. She is in the middle of cancer treatment and her immune system is greatly compromised.

I have been doing these Isolation Tikis for friends illustrating what we miss during this time. Here is Katherine’s image. She wears a knitted cap to cover her beautiful bald head, a mask that protects her with a filter, she has taken leave as the Bay Farm School principal, symbolized by their dolphin mascot and motto, “It’s a Great Day to be a Dolphin.” I designed this mascot for her by the way, it is a real shirt. She has been cooking and baking, known by her students and staff for the Guinea Pigs that she takes to school, toilet paper in all my Tiki illustrations symbolize the frustrations with shortages and the song at the bottom of the tiki, “Don’t Stand So Close to Me”, by the Police, because everyone must keep their social distance. She loves the beach, but has to stay out of the water because of the radiation treatment.
Katherine is responding well to her treatment and all her hard work will be worth it. She is well loved in her community and everyone that knows her is willing to help.
